"Diverse" jury seated for Cobbins murder trial of Channon Christian and Chris Newsome...
Hopefully this boy will get the electric chair. He doesn't deserve to live.:
A diverse jury has been selected for the trial of Letalvis Cobbins, the first for the suspects accused of carjacking, raping and murdering a young Knoxville couple, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, in 2007.
Who's in the jury?
The 12 jurors are: one Asian man, two black men, one white man, one Hispanic man, five black women and two white women.
Four men were chosen to serve as alternates. Three are white and one is black.
Trial start time, jury sequestered.
The jury will be brought from Davidson County, where they were selected due to the enormous amount of pre-trial publicity, to Knoxville on Sunday and sequestered. The trial begins Monday.
Judge Richard Baumgartner warned the jury that if they don't comply with the rules of being sequestered, they could cause a mistrial.
However, the court said jurors will get some social time during the trial, in the form of a movie outing.
Details of crimes, suspect claims laid out during selection process
The jurors were chosen after the pool was questioned in groups Friday.
The prosecution and the defense both were allowed to strike 15 people each from the jury pool without giving a reason.
Prosecutors told the court there will be no eyewitnesses in Cobbins' trial and their case is based on circumstantial evidence.
Assistant District Attorney Takisha Fitzgerald also said jurors may not like the lifestyles of many of the witnesses who will testify, but don't judge them.
Fitzgerald assured the jury pool that the issue of race will come up in Cobbins' trial.
In a statement to police, Cobbins said he's charged with killing some rich white folks, Fitzgerald said, adding that Cobbins is poor and the victims were financially well off.
Fitzgerald told the jury pool to ignore the issue of race.
Defense attorney Scott Green said, "Let's get one thing perfectly clear. Race has nothing to do with this case. We are not going to bring it up and I trust the state won't bring it up."
Three other suspects are charged in the case: Lemaricus Davidson, George Thomas and Vanessa Coleman. They're all black. The victims were white.
The defense told the jury pool Cobbins made bad choices in this case, but he's not a killer. Green blames Eric Boyd, who was convicted last year as an accessory, for killing Newsom and Davidson for killing Christian.
The defense said Davidson's fingerprints were on the trash can where Christian's body was found in an East Knoxville home and no DNA evidence links Cobbins to Newsom.
Also, Cobbins' defense said Davidson was the ringleader and was abusive and manipulative to Cobbins, his half brother. Cobbins had no idea what Davidson, who's 6'4 and 200 pounds, and Boyd were about to do, his attorneys said.
The defense showed the jury pool some pictures of the victims, saying it would lessen the blow during the trial.
Newsom's body was found burned and bound along a set of railroad tracks. The medical examiner said he'd been repeatedly raped, beaten and shot.
Christian's body indicted she'd been repeatedly raped, beaten, cleaner was poured down her throat and she suffocated in that trash can, according to the medical examiner.
After seeing the pictures, two members of the jury pool asked to be dismissed. One of them, a man said, "It just upsets me to see that. It kind of makes me a little angry. I just can't understand how anybody could be a part of anything like that."
Those two were dismissed.
Cobbins is in Nashville for the selection process. At times, he was busy studying paperwork at the table with his attorneys.

Caution: Congoliods At A Chuck E. Cheese's Can Be Harmful To Your Health...
It would be best if Whites avoid Chuck E. Cheese's near any metropolitan areas, it can be harmful to your health:
The wobbly video shows a group of adults mulling inside Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant in Susquehanna Twp. Suddenly it pans left and captures a fight breaking out.
The 22-second clip, uploaded Sunday to YouTube, is the latest example of what police describe as a disturbing and bizarre crime trend: escalating violence among adults at a place designed for children's birthday parties.
Susquehanna Township police have been called to the restaurant on Union Deposit Road 12 times in the past year for reports of disorderly conduct, assault and theft. Those calls have resulted in 13 arrests, including six women -- five adults and a juvenile -- charged with disorderly conduct in a Saturday-night brawl.
In 2007, police responded to the restaurant 18 times for similar offenses.
"It's madness, absolute madness," Susquehanna Twp. Police Chief Robert A. Martin said.
Martin said he believes much of the violence stems from ongoing disputes among people who bump into each other in the restaurant. "They see each other at Chuck E. Cheese, and before you know it an argument turns into something physical."
The assaults also could be attributed to separated or divorced parents who attend a child's birthday party, he said. Such was the case in an April 4 incident, when police accused a man of slapping his estranged wife in the head at their child's party.
The violence at Chuck E. Cheese's isn't isolated to the Susquehanna Township restaurant. Last month, the Wall Street Journal published an article about a growing number of adult melees at locations in Brookfield, Wisc.; Topeka, Kan.; Toledo, Ohio; and Flint, Mich.
The number of calls at the Susquehanna Township location increased from 11 in 2005 and nine in 2006, Martin said. In late March, police broke up a fight involving 20 people.
Other Chuck E .Cheese restaurants in central Pennsylvania have had similar problems.
At the Manheim Twp. restaurant in Lancaster County, a man was arrested March 20 after police said he ran around the restaurant spitting and yelling he had hepatitis C. A week earlier, a 17-year-old Warwick Twp. girl was walking to her car in the parking lot when a man walked up behind her, grabbed her and tried to drag her away, police said. No one has been arrested in that incident.
A call to CEC Entertainment, Inc., which runs Chuck E. Cheese, was referred to the company's legal department in Irvine, Texas. Messages left Tuesday morning and afternoon were not returned.
In April, a company spokeswoman told The Patriot-News all the restaurants have security cameras to help ensure peace of mind for customers and the restaurants' workers who dress as the Chuck E. Cheese mouse mascot.
"As in our other urban, high-density locations, we rely on the local authorities and their advice to control situations such as the ones we have experienced in Harrisburg," spokeswoman Brenda Holloway said.

White Girl Attacked By Sheboons For Wearing Palin Pin. Lesson NOT Learned.

An Augsburg College student says she was attacked and punched on election night, because of her support for Sarah Palin.
18-year-old Annie Grossmann tells KARE 11 she was assaulted after attending an election night party.
"They saw the pin and they started calling me racist, and I've never seen these girls before," said Grossmann.
Grossmann says 4 African-American women confronted her, one of them grabbed her, began shouting at her, and wouldn't let her go.
"After about 5 minutes or so I just got really sick of it, just holding me there by force. So I kind of pushed her back and started walking away. She grabbed me by the shoulder, I turned around, and she punched me in the eye," she said.
Bruce Grossmann, her father, says the punch caused his daughter to hit her head on a wall behind her. He says she sought medical treatment for blurred vision. She missed a couple of days of hockey practice and may have suffered a slight concussion.
Augsburg officials do not believe the suspects are students at the school. Grossmann filed a police report; Minneapolis police say they're still looking for the suspects.
Annie Grossmann grew up in Delta Junction, Alaska. She is attending Augsburg college and is a Freshman on the hockey team. She calls Palin "a role model."
"I've met Sarah Palin once and my mom works for her," Grossmann said.
Grossmann says it's not been easy voicing her support for the Republican Party at a liberal arts college. She did say most students have respected her political affiliation, but she's still shocked about election night.
"It was a bummer, as a Freshman, I was so excited to come to college and I love Augsburg, but it is a shock. It's sad to think that people actually think like that," Grossmann concluded.
